About Cindy Sample
Having been an avid reader from the age of four, Cindy Sample’s third grade career ambition was to become a detective just like Nancy Drew. At sixteen, she realized her inherent klutziness could be an impediment to becoming a private eye or super spy. Her new mission was to be a mystery writer.
With a degree in history and a family to support, Cindy put aside her literary longings for a weekly paycheck, landing a job as a receptionist with a real estate office. Her career path eventually led to the position of CEO of a nationwide company.
After one too many corporate mergers, Cindy found herself plotting murder instead of plodding through paperwork. Her first novel, Dying for a Date, released by L&L Dreamspell in June, 2010, combines bad dates, real estate, a few dead bodies, and plenty of giggles. Dying for a Date was voted # 1 in Romance in the 2010 P&E Readers Poll. The Sequel, Dying for a Dance was a finalist for the 2012 Lefty award for Best Humorous Mystery and the recipient of the 2012 Best Fiction Award by the Northern California Publishers and Authors Association.
Cindy is a former columnist for the Gold River Community Newspaper. She is a past president of the Sacramento Chapter of Sisters in Crime. She has also served on the boards of the California Mortgage Bankers Association, the Sacramento Opera, the YWCA, and on the National Kidney Foundation Annual Authors Luncheon committee. Cindy is co-chair of the Left Coast Crime Convention, which will be held at the Sacramento Sheraton Grand Hotel March 29 – April 1, 2012.
Cindy is a popular motivational speaker. She has presented numerous keynote addresses on topics ranging from “You’re Never Too Old to Follow Your Dreams” and “The Pot-hole Filled Path to Publication” to “Dating for the Hot Flash Set.”
